Barack Obama bio
Barack Hussein Obama was born on August 4, 1961, in Honolulu, Hawaii. His parents are Barack Obama, Sr., and Ann Dunham. Barack's father is a native of Kenya, and his mother an American (Wichita, Kansas). Obama's parents separated when he was only two years old, his mother later marrying an Indonesian named Lolo Soetoro.
Obama lived in Indonesia for four years, until he was ten, before moving back to Hawaii to live with his grandparents. He was enrolled in Punahou Academy in fifth grade, where he later graduated with honors in 1979. Obama says that during that time he first became aware of racism, and says he struggled with his own racial identity as well. He admits to having used alcohol, marijuana, and cocaine during these teenage years.
After high school, Obama attended Occidental College in Los Angeles for two years, then transferred to Columbia University in New York. He graduated from Columbia University in 1983 with a degree in political science.
Obama worked several jobs before he began attending Harvard Law School in 1988, where he graduated magna cum laude in 1991. After he graduated, Obama moved back to Chicago, where he practiced as a civil rights lawyer, and taught and the University of Chicago Law School.
Obama's work later led him to run for the Illinois State Senate, and was elected to it in 1996. In 2000, Obama made tried for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, but was unsuccessful. In 2004, he was voted onto U.S. Senate. In February 2007, Obama announced his bid for the 2008 democratic presedential nomination. As we now all know, he won.
